SUBMISSION PROCESS
  1. WRITE A SOLOEM. Follow the guidelines of the soloem form.
    ONLY poems in the SOLOEM form will be considered.
  2. Agree to rules of engagement (listed below).
  3. FILL OUT THE SUBMISSION FORM (below).
  4. UPLOAD A WORD or PDF FILE of the poem.
    The file name should be FIRST MIDDLE INITIAL LAST chisoulpoem title and time sent.
    Ex. ARYOUNG chisoulpoem THE STARS OF ENGLEWOOD 837pm
  5. UPLOAD A VIDEO that should not exceed 1.5 MINUTE IN LENGTH.
    The file name should be FIRST MIDDLE INITIAL LAST chisoulpoem title and time sent.

  6. Review the consent language (included below).
  7. HIT SUBMIT.
  8. YOU WILL RECEIVE NOTICE IF THE POEM HAS BEEN SELECTED WITH FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS. Selected poets may be invited to present poems via media outlets and local publications.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT

  • Submissions must be original writing. Plagiarism will not be accepted.
  • There is no tolerance for hate speech. Leave bigotry and offending a specific group and/or sector of humanity elsewhere. Discriminatory language will not be accepted.
  • A trigger warning should be given for poems that are adult in theme, and/or have specifically sensitive and/or violent subjects.
  • Selection of poems for further distribution will be at the discretion of the Chicago Poet Laureate and administrators of the Chicago Poet Laureate program.
